A little makeover project for our grand baby.
We had a small trunk with our last name etched in it and we decided to use it for our Granddaughters toy box.
- I do not favor painting over good, old wood patinas, but this 1980 stain was a good candidate for paint.
2. It was first painted a solid very light grey. Then sanded to appear worn and accent the letters. Followed with a spray of Matte Finish from Krylon. This will make it much easier to wipe clean.
3. Next I added a 2 inch piece of foam to the top and covered it with a piece of fabric. I cut out for the hinges and then pulled the fabric evenly and used the staple gun to keep in place.
4. To cover the raw edges I attached a piece of thin plywood painted the same as the trunk. It was attached with a few screws.
5. Finally, I attached this hinge that locks the trunk open while being filled. Now there is a place to store toys and a little extra seating when needed.
